What can I
expect to gain from taking classes?
When you learn the Ba Duan Jin practice, you gain a plethora of benefits – from strengthening your physical body, to relaxing the mind, to feeling happier and more confident. The more you practice of course, the more benefits you reap.
The gentleness and simplicity of the exercises make them safe and easy to do. The slow movements are designed to be in tune with our own body structure regardless of age, fitness level, health condition, flexibility, and weight. In addition, the practice helps the recovery process from injuries, and/or slows down the progression of a chronic condition. Eight Silk Brocade can be practiced anywhere and anytime, and that ‘no equipment’ is required! Other side benefits of the Ba Duan Jin practice include self-massage and music therapy. Self-massage - Generally, we go to a massage therapist to relieve and release the pain due to tight muscles and joints. With the Ba Duan Jin practice, we learn to do it ourselves. The movements are designed to increase circulation to those aching muscles and joints. And, when combined with special breathing techniques, our internal organs - heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, spleen, etc. - are actively massaged and revitalized. Music Therapy – To create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, the Ba Duan Jin is generally practiced to the soothing sound of traditional Chinese music. The music helps to further relax the body and mind and stimulate our senses. Traditional Chinese music differs from Western style music inasmuch as it uses 5 rather than 7 notes (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti) – studies have shown that the fa and ti notes cause hype rather than relaxation – thus making the exercise overall more effective and enjoyable. |
