I was born and raised in Changsha, Hunan, China. As a child, I was introduced to Qigong and Tai Chi. However, as I entered adulthood I lost interest in these traditional means to fitness and health, and pursued a fast-paced chaotic life instead. It was much later in my adult life, and after much hardship, that I finally came to recognize and appreciate the multi-faceted benefits of the ancient Chinese Art of Healing.
In the early 1990’s, I moved to Canada with my family. Canada was for us a blank page: no relations, and no knowledge … of its culture, its language, its people, and its customs.
As my Chinese university degree and my work skills were not recognized, I had no choice but to start all over again. With dedicated effort, and the energy of a healthy and youthful woman, I succeeded in obtaining an IT diploma that enabled me to secure a job.
Soon enough though, the stress and anxiety of that dedication, adversely affected my health. Both, my weight and waist increased by more than 50% and fatigue became embedded in my daily routines. Somewhat unaware, I had entered the vicious cycle of life in the fast lane.
Repeatedly, I tried to address these ever advancing undesirables. I followed diet plans, joined fitness clubs, and even enrolled in dance classes. Pounds and inches lost were soon regained with interest! Like a yo-yo, my weight went up-and-down, and my waist in-and-out. Increased stress and anxiety levels followed my mounting frustration and depression. I was about to surrender to it all when, on a visit back to China in 2013, I met an old childhood friend that re-introduced me to the Qigong practice.
Be thankful . Be grateful. For every moment, every event, and every person in your life.
Although the same age as me, my friend looked and moved as if he were twenty years younger. I envied his vigour, his drive and his self-esteem. I accepted his invitation to practice the gentle and subtle movements of Qigong every remaining morning of my vacation. It was during those couple of weeks that I reconnected with the roots of my upbringing, and rediscovered the road to Meditation in Motion.
When I returned to Canada, I instigated a daily practice, a forty-minute routine that included basic Qigong and Tai Chi exercises. After a short three months, I was amazed and inspired by the results I had achieved: my core was firming; my weight was lowering; my waist was shrinking; my energy was improving; my stress was dissipating; my anxiety was disappearing; and best of all, my self-esteem was returning … stronger than ever!
It is two years since I crossed paths with my childhood friend and I have been practicing the gentle moves of Qigong and Tai Chi almost every day. I now wear the same size clothing I did when I first came to Canada. Never in my life have I felt this confident, happy and youthful!
It is this personal journey combined with the Chinese culture of healing that stands behind “Fountain of Youth Qi”, a company that I have created in order to share and spread harmony between body and mind and between work and life.
I teach Qigong and Tai Chi exercises based on my own successful experiences of this art. I love to share my practice with those who wish to pursue a more natural and sensible approach to life involving physical strength, balance and flexibility, with less stress and anxiety, leading to a peaceful inner self.
