About Six Healing Sounds

Ancient people practice Six Healing Sounds. Qinghai Ledu pottery jar - 3300 BC to 2100 BC

What is Six Healing Sounds ?

Six Healing Sounds
A Traditional Chinese Health Regime

Six Healing Sounds is an ancient Chinese breathing exercise. It is designed to balance and harmonize the whole body. Each of the six sounds is associated with a different organ and a corresponding set of emotions. By focusing on the intake and release of the breath, and the vibration of each healing sound, we can relax, release stress, and remove toxins from our organs. The practice is beneficial to all, young and old.

What is the history?

The History of Six Healing Sounds
In 1975, the piece of pottery shown in the photo below was discovered during an archeological excavation in Qinghao, Ledu. Analyses dated it at more than 5,000 years. It is believed that the reliefs of the man’s face and the woman’s body on the outside of the vessel depict the practice of Healing Sounds.
There are several other references in ancient literature that discuss Healing Sounds. Examples include:
  • Qin and Han dynasty, <Lu Annals> (239 B.C.) - discussion on using Healing Sounds in treating ailment
  • Western Han Dynasty, < Wang Bao Biography> (36 B.C.) – discussion on "Oh boo breath” as a correction song.
